The Singapore MRT Purple Line is also referred to as the North East Line. 

With 16 stations, the Purple Line spans a distance of 20.2 kilometers, running from HarbourFront in the south to Punggol in the northeast. It serves a variety of densely populated residential areas, such as Sengkang and Hougang, as well as commercial areas, including Serangoon and Clarke Quay.

On official MRT literature and maps, the Purple Line is represented with the colour purple and the letter “NE.” Trains on this line run from 5:30am to 12:00am every day, with an average frequency of 2 to 3 minutes during peak hours and 5 to 7 minutes during off-peak hours.

Notable stations along the Purple Line include HarbourFront, which is an interchange station with the Circle Line and located next to Sentosa Island and the VivoCity shopping mall; Serangoon, which is another interchange station with the Circle Line and situated close to the Nex shopping mall; Little India, which is located in the historic Little India district and near various cultural and religious landmarks, with the interchange with the Down Town line; China Town, with interchange with the Down Town line; and Punggol, which is situated in the rapidly developing Punggol new town and near the Punggol Waterway Park and several residential estates.
